The Counties of Lanark and Leeds Grenville have retained Jewell Engineering to prepare a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) report to evaluate alternatives to address the deteriorating condition of the Andrewsville Bridge over the Rideau River, located in the hamlet of Andrewsville about 5 km north of the Village of Merrickville. Andrewsville bridge is designated as a boundary bridge, therefore it is jointly maintained by the County of Lanark and the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
During the Regular Meeting of Council on October 4, 2022, a resolution was passed that the Reeve and Deputy Reeve are to provide notice to both Counties, all lower-tier Municipalities within the Counties, and the local MP and MPP that the Township of Montague is in support of keeping the Andrewsville Bridge open to traffic and not decommissioning the bridge.
Concerned residents may keep up with developments to the future of the bridge by visiting the following County sites:

The more than 1,000 artifacts found in the museum include items from the trades of the 1800s and 1900s, including carpentry, blacksmithing, coopers, spinning, weaving, quilting and farming.

The Smiths Falls-Montague (Russ Beach) Airport (ICAO identifier CYSH) is a registered aerodrome located in Montague Township approximately 6.5 km (3.5 nautical miles) east of the town of Smiths Falls. The airport is located in Class E uncontrolled airspace with an Aerodrome Traffic Frequency UNICOM 122.7 MHz and ARCAL Type K aerodrome lighting on 122.9 MHz. Runway 06/24 is paved asphalt 3,998 feet long by 75 feet wide. Each runway end is served by an RNAV (GNSS) instrument approach procedure published in the Restricted Canada Air Pilot (RCAP).
The airport is owned by Montague Township and the Town of Smiths Falls and operated by volunteers who are members of the Smiths Falls Flying Club. The Club operates a flight training unit with three Cessna 172M aeroplanes. There is 100LL avgas available via a self-serve credit card system. There are no landing fees, and no tie-down fees for stays less than 30 days.
The Smiths Falls Flying Club holds a fly-in breakfast each year either the last Sunday in May or the first Sunday in June.
The Rideau Canal is a visitor's paradise with its many historic lockstations and 202 kilometres (125 mile) of scenic waterway. The Rideau Canal, a National Historic Site of Canada, a Canadian Heritage River and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, consists of a series of beautiful lakes and rivers connected by canals. It stretches from Kingston, at the foot of Lake Ontario, to Ottawa, Canada's capital. The Rideau Canal can be accessed from the Township of Montague, at Andrewsville (Upper Nicholsons), Clowes and Kilmarnock Lockstations.
The Montague Township Boat Launch can be found off of Boat Launch Road on the Rideau River. The launch is approximately 15km east of Smiths Falls on Highway 43. It has a gravel ramp with a narrow dock and can accommodate boats up to 16ft. There is no launch fee, however parking is limited.
The Hall and Park area is used by a variety of community organizations and members for meetings, celebrations and fundraisers. And thanks to the $143,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in June of 2023, people of all abilities will be able to access the building and the park area.
Previous funding was received from OTF in 2018 to put in the current play structure and upgrade the interior of the Hall. The Township wanted to grow off the previous grant and make the play area and parking more accessible to everyone, so the parking lot was pulverized, new granular base and new asphalt was placed, along with a paved pathway to the play structure. An accessible swing has been installed and a small area for basketball. Funding was received through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund for the installation of public Wi-Fi, a generator and chain link fencing around the playground areas.
It is very important for Council and Staff that we grow in an inclusive and accessible direction for all. These grants have allowed needed renovations to be made.
This wheelchair-accessible community hall located at 657 Rosedale Road South in Smiths Falls, and is available for the public to rent.
Capacity is 208 standing, and 150 for sitting.
