The Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act allows Municipal Clerks and other Officials to take various types of declarations and to administer oaths. Documents requiring a Commissioner of Oaths and Affidavits can be commissioned at the Township Office. The request for Commissioner of Oaths service must be made by the same individual taking the oath and signing the document. There is no fee for the Township's Commissioner of Oaths service.
You are not required to book an appointment for a Commissioner of Oaths; however, walk-in appointments are based on availability of the Commissioner. Complete your document before visiting the Township Office, but DO NOT sign the affidavit section of the document. The Commissioner of Oaths will witness the signature(s) of person(s) who are affirming/declaring the contents of a document to be true.

There is no guarantee that a document can be commissioned until it is seen by the Commissioner. The Townships's Commissioner of Oaths reserves the right to refuse commissioning services of ANY document.
Under the Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. C. 17, the following documents listed below cannot be commissioned:
A Commissioner of Oaths is not a "Notary Public". If your document is required to be signed by a Notary Public, you must contact a lawyer and/or Notary Public.

This act applies to local government institutions, including municipalities; police services boards, school boards, conservation authorities, boards of health and transit commissions. It requires that local government institutions protect the privacy of an individual’s personal information existing in government records. It also gives you the right to request access to municipal government information, including records, containing your personal information.
As a resident, there are methods available to request information informally without creating an official MFIPPA request. The Township recommends that residents approach staff members to discuss any request for information prior to filing a formal request for information.

The MRCC is made up of a group of volunteers who oversee the events happening within the township. The MRCC meets the fourth Thursday of every month at Rosedale Hall (657 Rosedale Rd S) at 7:00pm.

Smiths Falls Civitan Club is a non-profit, volunteer organization that provides services and assistance to Smiths Falls and surrounding areas while promoting good citizenship through its membership. Civitan has a special emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. As part of that mission, clubs help fund the Civitan International Research Center, dedicated to better treatment and understanding of disorders such as autism, cerebral palsy, brain cancer, and other illnesses of the human brain.
Civitan membership provides opportunities for personal growth, leadership training, and organizational experience. Civitans from all walks of life have gone on to serve as leaders at the club, regional, and even international levels.

The purpose of the organization is to represent the needs of seniors through unity and education and to enhance the quality of life, community participation and independence of seniors. The organization holds euchre parties 3 times weekly; monthly members meeting; pot luck suppers; catering luncheons & dinners in the club as well as events outside of our club; annual Remembrance Day service; Founder's Day; Christmas Dinner/Dance; New Year’s Eve gathering; we provide hall use for local seniors choir as well as community use for birthdays, weddings, showers and many other events. The club is wheelchair-friendly so it can be accessible by all.
